STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:
- Cooperative - teams work to accomplish specific goals
- Individualized - an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals
- Competitive - individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria.
STAR Events Update:
In 2016, Jessica Floyd received silver at the regional level with Recycle/ Redesign. Ivory Shikles received silver in FCCLA Knowledge at the regional level and a gold in advocacy at the regional and state level! Nhu Tran & Andrea Jackson received a gold in Focus on Children at regionals. Micahlynn Hollandsworth was awarded a gold in Focus on Children at regionals and received gold at the state level! Angelina Hein received a gold at regionals in Career Investigation and was also awarded the top gold at the state level, qualifying for Nationals! Jameshia Johnson received gold at regionals and a silver at state! Congrats to all!
In 2015, Zac Ruffollo, Angelina Hein, Erin Kearns, and Makayla Penny received gold at the regional level. Ivory Shikles, Jessica Floyd, and Michahylnn Hollandsworth received silver at regionals. Congratulations to Zac Ruffolo who received gold in Career Investigation, and Erin Kearns and Angelina Hein who received silver in their category, Focus on Children!
Ivory Shikles completed in Interpersonal Communication in 2014 and she received gold at the regional level. She also received top gold at the state level and qualified for Nationals! Ivory was the first BHS member to complete a STAR Event! Congratulations!
